Introduction

About the Round Table

The Salt Creek Civil War Round Table (SCCWRT) was founded by Marilyn Steele in 1962 during the anniversary of the Civil War Centennial. It is one of several round tables located in the suburbs of Chicago.

Purpose

The SCCWRT exists to stimulate interest in the American Civil War, encourage scholarship in the field of Civil War subjects, and assist in the preservation of historical sites and monuments to protect our national heritage for future generations.

The SCCWRT has been committed to battlefield preservation since 1992. The organization actively supports many of the fundraising events of the American Battlefield Trust. Contributions are raised through monthly book drawings, an annual book fair and other fund-raising events including private donations.

Goals

Knowledge, personal fulfillment, fellowship, and service to others through educational activities are goals that motivate many of the members.

Newsletter

The monthly newsletter, The Outpost, is a must read providing a lively summary of round table activities, future presentations, preservation news and other items of information for all subscribed members.

Meetings

Regular meetings take place from September through June; there are no meetings in July and August. Meetings include speakers on a variety of Civil War topics, debates or panel discussions. Speakers are usually drawn from the membership, reinforced by authors and guest speakers from other round tables. There is an annual dinner banquet and silent auction in June and a book sale in October for battlefield presentation.

Location

Meetings are held at the Glen Ellyn History Center, 800 North Main Street, Glen Ellyn, Illinois on the third Friday of each month at 11:00 AM
